Prior to downloading digital map data, review the information below, including the sample test files and frequently asked questions. Selection of an export format that is compatible with the GIS software package it will run on is the responsibility of the user.
Projection File
Some GIS Software packages require that the GIS Layer have a predefined coordinate system.
Each .shp file includes an associated.prj file in the dataset. If you do not want the layer to be projected, simply delete the .prj file associated with the layer.
The projection file is also available by right clicking on the link below and saving it to a file:

The Historical Ledger database is an online disk resident file that contains information related to lease level oil and gas production, product dispositions, and allowable information. The Historical Ledger provides monthly oil and gas production by lease for the period January 1993 to 27 months prior to the present date. The data is incremented monthly as the Oil and Gas Roll process "rolls off" selected data from the 26-month Oil and Gas systems such as the Production database above. The Historical Ledger database is updated daily because of Monthly Production Report (Form PR) received relating to the Historical Ledger time period.
This data set contains production from 1993 to current.
This data sets contains a dump of the Production Reports for Pending Leases Database. When a lease has not yet been assigned an official Lease ID by the RRC, the operator will report production on this “pending lease” by using some other identifying information [API (American Petroleum Institute) number or drilling permit number). Data for pending wells provided on or after September 1, 2016 will no longer include duplicate records not deleted after the assignment of an oil lease or gas well identification number.

This data set includes the most recent 26 months of Form R-3 [Monthly Report for Gas Processing Plants] filings. Please note that information submitted in sections VIII and IX on the form are not available in the data set.
Full Wellbore Wellbore
This database contains information from the Wellbore database. Every proposed hole in Texas relating to oil and gas drilling has an API (American Petroleum Institute) number assigned to it. Records for each hole drilled are set up in the Wellbore database by API (American Petroleum Institute) number. These records contain completion, plugging, formation, and other information related to the well bore. Dummy API numbers have been assigned to old wells drilled prior to implementation of the API numbering technique. Information on most of the wells ever drilled in Texas is contained in the Full Well Bore file.
This data set provides data related to oil and gas well bores used in the RRC Online Oil & Gas Data Well Bore Query. The Well Bore Query data set provides a way for users to search for wells by district, lease, county, field, operator, drilling permit number, API number, on/off schedule, or well type. The file is run at the beginning of each month.
The primary file of the automated well system is the Well Database. It is an on-line, disk resident file that contains testing and technical information related to oil and gas wells. The file information is made available in two volumes, the oil wells or the gas wells. The Well Database contains allowable, G-10 and W-10 testing/technical information on a well basis for the most recent 26 month reporting period.
